RAND KRAMER

Rand Kramer’s paintings blend contemporary compositions, abstract landscapes, and subtle figurative elements, drawing inspiration from nature, textures, weathered surfaces, graphic symbols, typography, and patterns. Though he begins with a general direction, the process often takes on a life of its own, evolving as the painting unfolds. His aim is to create a visual narrative rich in texture, bold strokes, and delicate details—works that invite the viewer to experience calm, beauty, ambiguity, and playfulness.

Kramer’s approach combines deliberate intention with spontaneous experimentation. He builds layers of mixed media, intuitively brushing, scraping, and sanding to uncover hidden depths, colors, and textures. The result is a dynamic interplay between what is planned and what emerges organically, creating a process that is both fluid and unpredictable.

Formerly based in Northern Virginia, Rand now lives and works in Asheville, North Carolina. His work is held in public and private collections across the US and internationally.
